Affirmations by Ram Dass

I read the book "Compassion in Action" by Ram Dass when I was in my mid 20's. It had such a powerful impact on me, I've never forgotten it. Over my end of year break, I started reading it again. It's full of so many gems of wisdom, and has once again touched me in the depths of my Soul, holding a mirror up to my eyes so I can see where I give, and where I hold back. Here are some of my favourite inspirational messages from this book. Enjoy!

Intuitively pick a number between 1 and 9, to
see which inspirational saying and Young Living
essential oil or blend is choosing you today:

1. Compassion is the tender opening of our hearts to pain and suffering. When compassion arises in us, we see and acknowledge what we often push away – the parts of life that cause us sadness, anger, or outrage…Compassion allows us to…hear our hearts calling us to help.
Oil Blend: Acceptance

2. I’ve learned that if I try to divest myself of some attachment too soon, it just goes underground, biding its time, before surfacing again. The yogic literature cautions us not to attempt to rip the skin off the snake. We have to wait for the moment when the snake sheds its skin.
Oil Blend: Transformation

3. The spiritual journey, as I now conceive of it, is a progression from truth to ever-deepening truth…So I listen at each choice point to hear the deepest possible truth from which to act, and I choose, realising full well the paradox that I am both making the choice and not making the choice.
Oil Blend: Clarity

4. We live in such a disturbing, paranoid world that a whiff of truth is like the most wonderful music. It may be difficult to hear, but it speaks directly to our hearts and invites them out to play.
Oil Blend: Inner Child

5. When people are dying they often feel alone in their pain and fear…It takes a lover who is not afraid of the pain to be present and wipe away the loneliness.
Oil Blend: Valor

6. I don’t find my judgmental faculty nearly as wise as my intuitive one.
Oil Blend: Inspiration

7. Just what is a true yogi like?...Such a being acts out of a fearless freedom, his compassion expressed in breathtakingly unpredictable ways, at one moment miraculous and at the next quite mundane. Even in the midst of the strong passions of the moment, there is a deep inner calm and peacefulness, an indifference to the polarities of fame and shame, loss and gain, pleasure and pain, and even life and death. Such a being works not from a sense of duty or for a transformation of being but because her or his compassionate heart finds expression spontaneously in action.
Oil Blend: Peace & Calming

8. If you feel the need to have quiet time and still do service, just get up earlier.
Oil Blend: Common Sense

9. When you offer yourself in service, it opens your own heart so that you may once again taste the sweetness of your own heart’s innate compassion….Now, I am freed by being in love with people. There is no possessiveness in it. It isn’t really romantic. It’s as though we are sharing one space, we have merged in love…Even to be away from it in forgetfulness for a moment is very painful.
Oil Blend: Joy
