The Tuning Fork

A couple of weeks ago, I found myself in a tough situation. I was in Singapore airport, and had just boarded my flight to Sri Lanka when the crew announced that we had technical issues.  We were about to spend 2 hours on the tarmac waiting for those issues to be resolved, prior to our 4 hour flight. I was feeling strung out. It had been a long day to get this far, and the seats had very little legroom for my graceful, tall body.  But my discomfort was the least of my problems. Sitting next to me was my friend. This was her third flight, and she wasn’t doing well at all. Some digestive issues had started triggering, and...

Affirmations by Ram Dass

I read the book "Compassion in Action" by Ram Dass when I was in my mid 20's. It had such a powerful impact on me, I've never forgotten it. Over my end of year break, I started reading it again. It's full of so many gems of wisdom, and has once again touched me in the depths of my Soul, holding a mirror up to my eyes so I can see where I give, and where I hold back. Here are some of my favourite inspirational messages from this book. Enjoy! Compassion is the tender opening of our hearts to pain and suffering....

Conscious Flow: The Art of Freefalling

As a spiritual traveller, I’ve always had a fascination with the journey we take from living a very human existence with all its trials and tribulations, to reaching that state of Love and Universal Consciousness that we call enlightenment.  We are all on this journey in our own way.   Whilst there’s no way to fast track our journey, there are practices that will help us to move there more effortlessly.  Freefalling is amongst the most powerful of these practices.  So what is freefalling? We often think of heartache as an emotional state, but I’ve come to realise it’s just as much physical as it is emotional.  When we’re in a state of deep grief, our heart physically aches.  Have you ever wondered why that is, and how to soothe your aching heart?  The vagus nerve is the master switch of our body. It's our longest cranial nerve, linking our brain to various organs. It’s also the heartbeat of our parasympathetic nervous system. This is the part of our nervous system that promotes relaxation, and is responsible for regulating many automatic functions in our body, such as heart rate, breathing, digestion and immune response. When we are faced with deep and painful emotions, it’s as though a switch flips in...

Loving the Perfectly Imperfect

Do you ever wish there were more than 24 hours in the day? I sure do. My life is filled to the brim with purpose, with projects, with volunteering, with friends, with errands, with physical activities and with self-care. I reach the end of each year in a frenzy, crawling my way towards Christmas with my fingernails, wondering how I’m ever going to make it to my much-needed break. And then it’s here. And I have sweetness and downtime, rest and relaxation, and the chance to escape the endless busyness as I fill my own cup, and envision the year ahead. And in my mind, it’s always going to be a better year than the year just passed. It was...
