The closest thing to God that exists on our planet.
Essential oils are one of our pathways to vibrant health. They are definitely not the only one – we also need sunshine on our skin, pure water to hydrate our cells with, a clear mind, and plenty of love and self-care so that our own cup is full to the brim.
But essential oils are definitely a valuable tool to have in our toolbox. What’s interesting is how intelligently essential oils appear to work. How they affect one person can be quite different to how they impact another person. Where an oil may be experienced physically by one person, that very same oil may be felt emotionally by another person.
It’s no wonder that Gary Young, the founder of Young Living Essential Oils, said that essential oils are “the closest thing to God that exists on our Planet”.
Even renowned French Medical Doctor, Dr. Daniel Penoel, described essential oils in his book Natural Home Health Care using Essential Oils as acting with a “God-like intelligence”.

Personally I’ve watched over and over how essential oils take each person on their own unique journey.
In fact, in my first few years of using essential oils, I went to visit a close friend. She was feeling miserable because her neck muscles were tight. She'd been invited to a party that night, but nothing in her wanted to go.
I intuitively put some Young Living Grounding oil blend on her neck, knowing that the tree oils in this blend would help her tight muscles, and that the blend itself would support in grounding and anchoring her.
To my surprise, within seconds of this blend going onto her skin, she began crying. "It's broken, It's broken," she sobbed, as if the child within her was heartbroken.
A few years earlier she had broken her neck in a horse riding accident. Although she survived the accident, it had been a very traumatic experience for her, and a long recovery period. This oil blend had activated an emotional release for her, rather than working physically.
That makes perfect sense, because our sense of smell goes directly to the limbic region of our brain, where we store memories and associated emotions. That's why any aroma has the power to trigger memories and emotions for us, not just essential oils.
Fifteen minutes later, her sobbing stopped. That had been a big release for her. She looked at me with bright eyes, and declared that she was going to that party after all (and that's exactly what she did)! What a transformation!!!

The chemistry of essential oils explains their intelligence
Essential oils are chemically very complex. They contain anywhere from 80 to several hundred individual constituents. We call this the “fingerprint” of the essential oil.
If we take one plant – let’s say Peppermint – we know that every time peppermint is grown, the soil, chemistry and climate is slightly different. These differences are reflected in the essential oil’s chemistry, so that it changes with every batch.
That’s why sometimes you will buy an essential oil, and notice that it smells a little different to the previous batch, even though it's the same brand of oils.
This is a good thing. When you notice changes from batch to batch, you know that you are buying oil from living plants in a natural environment….because nature is harsh one year, and kinder the next. We want our essential oils to reflect these rhythms of nature.
The frequency of oils
Let’s look at the intelligence of essential oils in terms of frequency.
All living things are composed of atoms and charged particles (like electrons and protons) in constant motion. This motion creates complex electromagnetic and vibrational patterns, ie. frequencies. The frequency of a substance determines its impact on the human body.
In the context of essential oils, lower frequencies target the physical body (which resonates around 62 to 68 MHz), whereas higher frequencies target emotions, and very high frequencies target the Spirit.
Of all of our different essential oils, one of the highest measured frequencies comes from Rose oil, at 320 MHz. So we know that Rose oil targets the Spirit, but more specifically it resonates with the Heart Chakra. That's why we love to put Rose oil on our heart, and why it so powerfully opens us to Universal Love.
When I was recently visiting Iceland, my friend there offered me a roll-on bottle she had made up. It was an empty Rose oil bottle which she'd put a roll-on top on, and it contained 5ml of carrier oil and just 2 drops of Rose oil. She suggested I put it on the back of my wrist, rather than the underside of my wrist. I was truly surprised at how strong the aroma was, even with only 2 drops of Rose oil in that whole bottle. In the world of vibrational essential oils, a little goes a very long way.
If we take Wintergreen as another example, the frequency of Wintergreen oil is 52 MHz, which is the same frequency as our bones. Therefore Wintergreen resonates with bones. That’s why I love to use Wintergreen to bring love to my bones.
Likewise, Basil oil has the same frequency as skeletal muscle tissue, so it’s no wonder that Basil is beautiful at relaxing our skeletal muscle. That’s why it’s one of the key ingredients in Aroma Siez oil blend, and why it’s one of the oils used in Raindrop Technique to relax the back.
Marjoram has a slightly different frequency to Basil, and its frequency matches our smooth muscle tissue. Therefore Marjoram is a perfect oil to rub over any areas of smooth muscle in your body, including the digestive system and the heart. No wonder Marjoram is part of Aroma Life oil blend, which was created to nurture the heart (both emotionally and physically).

But we can take this one step further…
Remember that essential oils are made up of hundreds of constituents? Each constituent has its own frequency, and the essential oil’s overall frequency is the average of the frequencies of its individual constituents.
When our body encounters an essential oil, it can pull from that essential oil the specific frequencies it needs. This is the reason why essential oils appear to act so intelligently.
I was teaching Raindrop Technique a couple of weeks ago, and I came up with a great analogy for this. I said, “imagine that every constituent is a Professor. When you have something you want to shift in yourself, imagine finding yourself in a room with several hundred professors, each with their own area of specialty. You know that someone in that room, and maybe more than one person, is bound to have the answer you need.”
So that’s how it is with essential oils.
Our body takes what it needs, and leaves the rest. And because my body might be taking constituent number 24, 83 and 157, and your body might be needing constituent 4, 52 and 102, you can then see how that one essential oil will appear to have a different impact on each of us, even though its overall frequency is the same.
A great example of this is Thyme oil. Thyme oil’s frequency is in the physical range, so we know it’s going to have a physical impact. It’s high in phenols, which in the plant have strong antibacterial and anti-infectious properties, helping to protect the plant from disease.
So it's no wonder that the Ancient Egyptians used Thyme oil in their embalming process, and the Greeks used it to disinfect the air, thus reducing the spread of disease.
But some of Thyme oil’s constituents also have higher frequencies that target more of the emotional realms.
So whilst Thyme oil can be very beneficial to our physical body, it also impacts our emotions....and this is the case with many of our essential oils.
According to Gabriel Mojay in his book Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit, Thyme oil helps to dispel melancholy and despondency, and also pessimism and self-doubt. It replaces these heavier emotions with drive, courage and valor.

The Power of Intuition
That’s why I love to work intuitively with my essential oils. Although I enjoy reading my reference books and finding out what the traditional uses of essential oils are, I equally love letting my inner guidance draw me to a particular essential oil.
I’ve been so amazed at the unusual oils that will pop up for me when I do this. The other day, when I was giving Raindrop Technique to a client, I was told that she needed to rub Lavender oil and Goldenrod oil under her big toes when she goes to bed at night. For her, this combination will be very soothing to the worry she often experiences in her mind.

An Exercise in Intuition
Would you like to try this for yourself? Line your oils up in front of you, so you can see their labels but not necessarily read their names. Then allow yourself to sink into quietness.
Let go of any need to be "right", and instead choose to be of service. I love choosing to be of service. I do this at the beginning of any healing session I give, as it switches me out of my thinking mind and my ego, and reminds me that I am in service to Spirit. With the statement of these words, I am able to surrender into the flow of love and information that comes through me, without my mind chattering away on my shoulder.
Hold in your mind the question you have, for example "Which oil is the best oil for me in this moment?", or "Which oil will help my friend in this challenge she's going through?" Then see which essential oil you are drawn to.
We all access our intuitive gifts in a number of ways. If you are visual, your eyes will be drawn to the bottle like a magnet. If you are auditory, you may hear the name of the oil or blend you need to use spoken into your mind. And if you are kinaesthetic (feeling), you will often feel your heart drawn to a particular oil, or a particular frequency.
For me, although I sometimes receive my guidance as words, I more often see the colour of the label of the bottle. That's one of the reasons I love that Young Living's oils have brightly coloured labels. Once I receive the colour of the label, I then start to sort through in my mind the different oils that have that colour label. That may lead me to a couple of different oils, each with a similar coloured label. Then I just "feel" the frequency of each of those oils, to see which one is calling out to me the most.
Once you know what essential oil or blend is calling you, it's then a simple matter of applying a drop or two of that oil to your body (or your friend's body).
Again, your intuition will guide you as to where that oil most needs to go on the body. There are no right or wrong places - just avoid applying essential oils to sensitive skin. That's why we typically apply oils to areas where our skin is more robust, such as on the chest, wrist, shoulders, back of neck, or under the feet.
If an essential oil does ever irritate your skin, don't use water to wash it away. Instead, apply some vegetable oil (like olive oil or coconut oil) over the top, and it will quickly extinguish any heat or irritation.
