Artemis' Azure Scrub

In my last blog, you would have read about the power of essential oils (and in fact all aromas) to trigger emotional memories. But how can this happen? Did you know that when you smell an essential oil, those volatile aromatic molecules mist out of your bottle and make their way to your nose? That’s why you can smell them, even from a distance! And once they reach your nose, those little molecules trigger some “cilia” (little hairs) that extend from your olfactory epithelium (a piece of skin that sits at the top of your nose). And those cilia are actually brain cells! They are extremely long, with one end being the hair, and the other end running all the...

A Whiff of Heaven

It was early in the morning, and I’d just woken up. Still half asleep, I wandered into my bathroom and was washing my hands when I caught a whiff of something so exquisitely beautiful that it took my breath away. As my nose sought for the source of the aroma, I discovered it was on a small patch of my towel. That’s odd. What caused that smell? It smelt soooo familiar, it was like I should have known it, but I couldn’t place it. Was it an oil blend? Was it a scented moisturizer? My mind ticked over the previous 12 to 24 hours. What had I been using? I was at a loss. So the sleuth in...

The Winter Solstice

For those of us in the Southern Hemisphere, the Winter Solstice took place a few short hours ago (21st June) at 1:32pm. This powerful time of year celebrates the longest hours of darkness. It represents the closing of one chapter in our Planet spins around the sun, and the opening of a new chapter. The “rebirth” of the sun holds for each of us a powerful energy for regeneration, renewal and self-reflection. Its life-giving rays shine into the dark, calling forth new life and new creations. Seeds that are buried deep within Mother Earth begin to germinate, and seek the warmth and the light of the sun’s rays. This is a beautiful time for self-reflection. So pause for a...

Mantras for the Spiritual Journey

This past month I’ve been re-reading my favourite spiritual book, The Lost Teachings of Atlantis, and it has reminded me of the incredible power not only of our daily affirmations, but also of Mantras. So I had this fantastic idea to make today’s Affirmations blog all about some of the world’s most beautiful spiritual mantras. Intuitively pick a number between 1 and 9, and see which mantra and Young Living essential oil is choosing you today. Chant this to yourself, as you apply your essential oil. 1. Sat Nam “Truth is my Identity”The ultimate truth is that we are all Divine Beings.Sat Nam reminds us of this.Oil Blend: Believe 2. Om Namah Shivaya “My salutations to Shiva, the auspicious and gracious...

The Sound of the Gong

I’ve lived in Byron Bay for over 7 years, and one of the highlights of this region is its beautiful beaches. My favourite beach walk has always been the stretch from Main Beach to Clarks Beach, where I have a spectacular view of the Byron Bay lighthouse as I walk East, and the beautiful mountains as I walk West. What an amazing way to ground and connect with the Earth! I’ve loved planting my feet in the sand, breathing in the fresh ocean air, watching the antics of the amazing seabirds, and at times grinning from ear to ear if I spot a dolphin or whale, or any other unusual creature. Connecting with nature in this way is the perfect way...
